Our Charity of the Year for 2015 was an easy choice. Bertie is the grandson of a retired staff member and needs funds for specialist treatment.
At Pinney Talfourd, we recognise the need to be a part of the communities surrounding our firm and have always actively supported charitable causes and endeavours, including a staff-nominated charity of the year.
This year it was very easy for us to choose a cause to support as one of our long serving members of staff had a grandchild by the name of Bertie.
Bertie was born on Valentine’s Day in 2014. Unfortunately during labour Bertie was deprived of oxygen for approximately 21 minutes. As a result he was diagnosed with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy grade III which has led him to have no swallow reflex, dystonia, visual and hearing impairment and cerebral palsy.Bertie is fed 100% via a tube and requires 24 hour care. However, he is generally a very happy baby who loves cuddles and his big sister Willow.
The family wish to take him to Panama for Stem Cell therapy which it is not currently available in the UK. In order for the stem cells to have the greatest success, a course of specialist intensive therapy is advised and we have committed to helping Bertie reach his goal of raising £25,000 for the treatment.
The family is being assisted by Tree of Hope, a charity committed to assisting sick children like Bertie and any funds raised in excess of the target will be used to help other children like Bertie.
We will be raising funds in a number of ways, for example, monthly dress down days, bake sales, raffles, a Christmas carol concert and a balloon race. Please also remember that for each client questionnaire retuned the firm has committed to donating £1 to the charity of the year so please take a moment to return the feedback form.
