We are delighted to announce that Hornchurch based charity, Tapestry, will be Pinney Talfourd’s charity of the year for 2018/19.
Tapestry is based in Havering and supports adults in leading a positive, fulfilling life with a particular focus on people living with dementia.
After raising over £11,000 last year for SNAP, the Brentwood based charity for children with special needs, staff at the firm voted to help the older generation and this local charity fitted the bill perfectly.
Tapestry has been around for over 68 years, originally conceived as Havering Older Peoples Welfare Association. HOPWA House opened in 1965. In 1973 they became Age Concern Havering and the Havering based unit became Tapestry in 2014.
They have helped over 350,000 people in that time and remain focused on care in the local community to this day.
Their ethos has always remained the same; to ensure that local people and their families have the care and support they need, as and when they need it.
Tapestry aim to open a sensory room in each of their centres in 2018 and will be building a new sensory garden at their HOPWA House centre in early 2019. These ambitious projects do not come cheap and they are aiming to raise over £90,000 in the next twelve months.
Our staff do a huge amount of voluntary work for charity and have already agreed to a number of fundraising activities including quiz nights, dress down days, curry nights and half marathons amongst other things. The Charity Committee will be busy making plans throughout May to help meet Tapestry’s targets. Clients can contribute too by completing a satisfaction questionnaire at the end of their case. £1 is donated for every completed questionnaire.
