Pinney Talfourd are proud to have partnered with H.A.D (Havering Association for People with Disabilities) for the last three years, raising funds for the local Hornchurch based charity. Our usual Charity of the Year partnership extended to three years due to the pandemic. We have donated a total of £12,172 to HAD.
H.A.D provides a broad range of services and activities for people with physical and sensory disabilities in the London Borough of Havering and those who support them. Their objective is to improve their clients’ quality of life, promoting independence and meeting their physical, emotional, and recreational needs.
They achieve this in many different ways by, for example, days out to the seaside, garden parties, fitness, art and computer classes, social clubs and lunch/supper clubs. There is also the Community Friends Project through which volunteers provide companionship to people either by telephone or in person. They also do outreach work in the community.
During the pandemic, when the centre had to close, the staff worked tirelessly to make sure that none of their clients were left isolated, by maintaining telephone contact and organising Zoom classes when face to face contact was not possible and even delivering Easter Eggs to everyone individually! The team Vikki Clarke, Denise Hanrahan and Julia Edgerton with manager Cheryl Cable treat all their visitors with the upmost respect and kindness and it really has been a joy to have got to know them all so well during the past three years.
As for our fundraising activities, one of the standout moments was the abseil from the London Orbital which four of our staff undertook (some more willingly than others) which raised £1,500. We held a summer Barbeque and Dog Show in H.A.D’s garden last August Bank Holiday which was enormous fun. On the first Friday of each month, we have Dress Down Day to raise funds and have had a few Bake Offs and sweepstakes. We also raised over £750 in sponsorship when five of our members of staff ran the Havering Half Marathon in 2019.
We have raised money at a Curry Night and at our annual Christmas at the Queens event. Even when last year’s event was cancelled, we were still able to raise funds by organising a raffle. Our last event was a Quiz Night at H.A.D with a fish and chip supper and raffle which raised £400. We should of course also not forget to mention many of our lovely clients who have made ad hoc donations.
Cheryl Cable, H.A.D’s manager says “It has been great, but all good things must come to an end! Although, not quite yet as Pinney Talfourd partner Stephen Eccles is running the London Marathon this year for H.A.D and solicitor Danielle Lees is also running The Big Half London Marathon for H.A.D, we just can’t quite let go!”
