Asbestos Disease Support Group at Pinney Talfourd

09/06/2017

The Anglia Asbestos Disease Patient Support Group was created for sufferers of mesothelioma and asbestos disease and is held monthly at Pinney Talfourd’s Brentwood office in Essex.

The group was formed in April 2016 by Mesothelioma UK ambassador, Brian Wallis, East Anglian law firm Ashtons Legal and Pinney Talfourd.

Group meetings take place on the second Wednesday of each month at the Brentwood office of Pinney Talfourd.

Group meetings also take place on the third Monday of each month in Norwich and the fourth Tuesday of each month in Bury St Edmunds at the offices of Ashtons Legal.

The main focus of the Anglia Asbestos Disease Patient Support Group is:

  • A meeting point for patients, family and friends outside the hospital environment
  • Free to all who attend
  • Promoting awareness of asbestos-related disease
  • Providing general support to all those that attend
  • Raising funds to assist with the training of specialist mesothelioma nurses in partnership with Mesothelioma UK
  • Providing advice in relation to civil compensation claims, where requested
  • Campaigning to improve the treatment and interests of those affected by asbestos-related disease
  • Working with local charities and hospices associated with asbestos-related disease

The group has regular speakers who give advice on issues relevant to asbestos-related disease.

The group provides a port in a storm to those touched by asbestos-related disease, where no government funded equivalent exists elsewhere in Essex or London.

Those attending can drop in at their convenience – meetings begin at 11am and conclude no later than 3pm – but advance notice of attendance is desirable.

Topics under discussion range from providing practical help, to developments in the law and medicine, the availability of resources, the progress of lobbying in Parliament and coverage in the media.

It is an opportunity for those attending to interact with each other to provide mutual support and understanding.

Discussions held by the group are completely confidential and sensitively handled.
