Pinney Talfourd proudly completed the FRP Team Triathlon in aid of Little Havens Hospice near Halstead in Essex on 9 July. This event took place at the beautiful Gosfield Lake Resort and was organised by Little Havens Hospice and sponsored by FRP Advisory. Little Havens Hospice provide respite breaks, symptom control and end of life care to youngsters not expected to reach adulthood because of a life limiting or life threatening condition.
The team raised double their target via sponsorship, which started the day on a positive note, and the weather was perfect.
The team all had to train for the event as none are experienced triathletes. But after weeks of preparing, our three eager participants were ready to go…..
Kristian Croad
Kristian is an Associate Solicitor in our Wills, Trusts, Tax & Probate Department. He was responsible for the swim leg of the race – 400m across the lake’s open water. He told us the water was warm if a little murky! Swimming in an open lake is quite different to a swimming pool but thankfully the start was staged to avoid a mass flailing of arms and legs in the race round the first buoy for which Kristian was grateful.
Stephen Eccles
Stephen is a Partner at the Firm and Head of Dispute Resolution and took on the 20km cycle challenge. The ride was fairly hilly and a particularly treacherous hill climb on a single track of unmade road was unexpected but he soldiered on. Stephen had renovated his old time trial bike for the purpose (thanks to Vincini Cycles in Upminster) and despite the rusty forks had a great race.
Emma Thorpe
Emma is an Associate Solicitor in our Wills, Trusts, Tax & Probate Department. She took on the final leg – a fast paced 5km run, mainly off road. Emma stormed home to cross the finish line giving the team a proud time of 1 hour 13 mins.
Out of 40 teams we came in the top 20, cheered on by some of the staff and families.
After the excitement of the race there was food and drinks to help everyone recover and the opportunity to chat to the many other teams.
